Introduction: From Novice to Expert as a Farmer
Despite the growing importance of agriculture, many farmers, both experienced and those new to farming, struggle with accessing the right tools and resources. JustFarm was developed to bridge this gap, providing a mobile and web platform designed to help both commercial farmers and aspiring farmers who are unsure where to start. The platform offers real-time weather updates, personalized farming advice, and market access, empowering users to make informed decisions, improve productivity, and achieve greater success in their farming ventures. As a Product Designer, my role was to enhance the platform’s usability, focusing on intuitive design, offline functionality, and simplifying the process of farm mapping and activity recording, making it accessible for all types of farmers.
Discovery: Understanding Farmers' Needs
I began by exploring the unique challenges faced by both commercial and new farmers, focusing on their daily struggles and needs for a digital solution. The goal was to understand how farmers managed their activities, what information they lacked, and how a platform could best serve them.
Current Farming Practices
Through observation and interviews, I noted that many farmers were relying on informal, paper-based systems for managing their crops and activities. There was a clear gap in accessible, centralized resources for weather updates, farming tips, and market trends.
Pain Points
Farmers faced challenges in accessing real-time, reliable weather data and expert farming advice. Those new to farming had no clear roadmap, often struggling with where to begin or how to effectively manage their farms.
Connectivity Barriers
I discovered that limited internet access in rural areas hindered farmers' ability to fully benefit from online resources. This highlighted the need for a platform that worked offline and was optimized for low data usage.
User Feedback
Engaging with farmers directly gave me valuable insights into their needs and expectations. These conversations helped shape the platform’s key features, ensuring it would meet the needs of farmers at every stage of their farming journey.
Solution Design: A Simple, All-in-One Farming Tool
The challenge was to create a platform that was user-friendly and accessible for both new and experienced farmers, with features that offered real value and enhanced productivity.
Intuitive Interface & Farm Management
I designed a clean, easy-to-navigate UI, allowing farmers to map their farms, record activities, and track sales and expenses, both online and offline.
Personalized Recommendations & Disease Detection
With Darli AI, farmers receive crop suggestions based on their location and real-time plant disease detection, along with personalized advice to optimize farming practices.
Farming Support via Darli AI
Farmers can ask Darli AI any farming-related questions, receiving immediate, tailored responses to help them with day-to-day farming decisions.
Weather & Market Insights
The platform provides real-time weather updates and local market prices, enabling farmers to make informed decisions on planting, harvesting, and selling.
Impact: Empowering Farmers for a Sustainable Future
JustFarm has begun transforming how farmers manage their operations, improving productivity and income. As the Product Designer, my work played a key role in ensuring the platform met farmers' needs and provided real value.
Engaged 200+ farmers early on
Achieved strong adoption, showing clear demand for a user-friendly farming tool.
Validated core features
